The order of the day
From prayer to sharing
The day of Qurban Bayram begins early: the faithful perform ablution, put on clean new clothes and go to the festive morning prayer at the mosque, where they gather together.
After the prayer, those who can afford it perform the qurban — the rite of sacrifice by strict rules. It is done with respect and without cruelty, by the established canons.
The meat is then divided into three parts and shared; the day continues with visiting relatives, remembering the departed and caring for the needy.
The festive prayer
In the morning a special festive prayer is performed at the mosque — the main shared rite of the day.
Takbir
In these days the takbir is recited — words of praise to God that sound in mosques and homes.
The qurban
Those who can afford it perform the qurban by the rules — with prayer, respect and without causing the animal suffering.
Three parts of meat
The meat is divided into three parts: for the family, for relatives and friends, and — above all — for the needy.
New clothes
For the festival people wear clean, new clothes — a sign of renewal and respect for the celebration.
Visiting graves
During the festival it is customary to visit cemeteries and remember departed relatives.

When the mosques are full
On the morning of Qurban Bayram the mosques fill with people. The festive prayer gathers neighbours, relatives and strangers into one row — with no distinction between rich and poor.
After the prayer they congratulate one another and disperse to continue the festival at home and as guests.
